my buddy has a 1990 turbo with 236,00 miles. how long do yall think this engine will last?

Depends how well is taken care of. I had a 2000 GS eclipse throw a Rod threw the oil pan with only 92K on the odo. that car was beat by me for 40K and for the rest by the first owner even worse. you know its bad when a clutch is completely gone at 45K.

its been taken good care of. regular oil changes etc.

sounds pretty good to me. Get a diagnostic done at a local mechanic shop...it shouldn't cost more than $50 bucks depending on what has to be done, and you'll be more comfortable about driving it after having a mechanic to look at it :-). I just had my RS (420a) looked at on monday, and I bought it with 140K on it.

do a compression and leakdown. each cyl should be something like 155-175ish. if your still in that area that is amazing.
