Turbocharging 1994 Eclipse GS 2.0
Hello Everyone!
I have been trying to learn as much as I can about my little piece of work. It's a 94 Eclipse 2.0 Non-Turbo. Chassis has 170k, but engine was rebuilt about 40k miles ago. I am curious as to what would be involved when it comes to installing a turbo charger off of another eclipse, turbo model. Besides the smog and insurance regulations that may get in the way in California (any hints would be helpful), is the engine built for an OEM turbo add-on? Do I need to have forged pistons or other modifications to do this safely? I once drove a 93 turbo GS, that little extra kick is definitely something I am interested in. Along with a manual transmission (which I do have), a factory turbo charger might be what I am looking to get for a little extra driving fun. Any suggestions?

RE: Turbocharging 1994 Eclipse GS 2.0
your major hurdle with the turbocharge for this engine is that you have higher compression pistons than what is in the turbo versions. The internals of the motor are just not made to be turbo. You do have the exact same engine as the turbo models however, but the turbo engines have 7.8:1 CR and you have 9.0:1. So the only way you really could TC this motor is to build it with better pistons and rods and probably a head swap would be a good idea. So basically in the end its alot easier to just find one that is already turbo

Alrighty guys thanks for your help...I think I'll just stick to lower key tuning, make sure the thing is running in top notch shape. Right now there are better things for me to put my money into I suppose Thanks anyhow!
