Exclamation 1997 gst wont go over 2500rpm !!HELP!! PLEASE!

I recently bought a 1997 GST, not running. I also own a 95 gf that i bought not running as well and it was an easy fix with just some realays out. I know the turboed cars have a lot different set up but i was hoping for a similar problem. I have had a few mechanics look at it but no one really wants to work on it. I have replaced alternator that was out, and did full tune up. The car idles really and will die while idling. When I unplug the main connector to the MAF the car will idle perfectly and not die, but will not go over 2500 RPMS and if i plug it back in car continues to die and idle bad. Ive been told my MAF is out, I've also been told it could be my ECU. how can i check to make sure its one or the other before i purchase. or any other ideas of what it could be thanks.

Use a DMM to test your MAF other than that id check every fuse and sensor not just the MAF

how exactly do I go about checking MAF?
I took it out an cleaned it it. i also now noticed if I unplug main harness to MAF it idles perfect but as soon as I plug it I'm idles rough and RPMs never go over 2500 either way.

I had a similar issue on a car I owned years ago. It wasn't an eclipse or a mitsu for that matter, but it was doing the EXACT same thing. first, make sure its not on backwards! That's how I messed mine up was getting in a hurry installing a CAI. Second, find one at a salvage yard. There are lots of sites online that you can search for these parts. Try the ones below:
