I just purchased an eclipse , Lowered, Body Kit, Wing, 18" rims, neon underbody lights, racing exaust, racing clutch, glow gauges, the works ! however, I had it for a few hours, and I blew the engine. My mechanic took the valve cover off only to find that it threw a rod.

I recently heard that as long as I kept my motor mounts , etc and such. That I could put a Dodge Neon Engine inside of it. Please help me asap. My main question is a yes or no , to me being able to do a motor swap with my :

1997 Eclipse RS - 2.0 DOHC, 16 Valve, 5 speed
TO A ...
Dodge neon 2.0 DOHC 16 valve, 5 speed engine.

Please let me know asap. This is my first mitsubishi engine, and I love the car, I just want it to run again, and I'm running out of time, before I'm going to need it.

 

your talking about the same motor dude... 420a... same motor that is in a dodge neon same motor that blew up in your 97 rs eclipse.. so yes it will work...

 

Will it be easy to swap out though ? I have found eclipse engines for the rs for like 1200 dollars, thats too expensive for me. I can't afford it. however, a neon engine is a few hundred cheaper, ... I just want to know if my mechanic will be able to swap it out with no problems at all. Ecu ...etc.

 

its practically the same motor, so its possible U wont run into problems, wit the ECU im not sure, could be the same n may not be...mite wanna check em 2 be sure.

 

just a question if youare taking a motor out of a neon why not an ecplise?
also it might be a good idea to overhaul the motor if it is possable and teh rod didnt break anything but itself. this may cost a little more than just riping the motor out but it would be the best way to go considering the fact that it would be a new motor.

 

I can't take one out of an eclipse, because it's too expensive. I haven't found a cheap one yet. I'm not looking for an engine to mod or anything, I'm just wanting a vehicle back with my eclipse. Neons are cheaper than eclipses.

It threw a rod, and the whole head is shot, because the rockers are like... GONE. lol.

 

have u checked a junk yard i know there are some junk yards in my area that you can get the whole motor in running condidtion for like 150-300 bucks.

 

If you could get me an engine for 150-300 dollars. I will give you 800 dollars. I'll send you the money, and you send me the engine. Shipping won't cost near the profit you'd be making. You keep whatever is left over.

 

I will see if i can find one in an eclipse also if u got 800 why dont u just save another 400 and get a new motor?

 

It's just a matter of time. I have a job, and right now, I'm paying money to ride the bus to work. I need to be able to have this engine put back in the vehicle. I'd settle for a volkswagen engine if it were to fit. I just need a vehicle, and would like for it to be my eclipse. lol
