97 GST NO SPARK AFTER HEAD CHANGE AND T-BELT
BOUGHT A 97 GST FROM A FRIEND AT WORK HE BENT THE INTAKE VALVES ,BY THE BALANCE SHAFT (TIMING BELT B) SHREDDING . I GOT A DIFFERENT HEAD HAD IT DONE AND PUT IT ON, INSTALLED THE NEW TIMING BELTS LINED UP TDC THE HOLE 9 YARDS FOLLOWING MITCHELL ONLINE AND USING A CHILTON. BEEN WRENCHING FOR YEARS BUT THIS IS MY FIRST ECLIPSE. AFTER I GOT EVERYTHING BACK ON. THE MOTOR TURNS OVER FINE BUT IM NOT GETTING ANY SPARK. I KNOW THERE IS A TON OF THINGS IT COULD BE BUT YOUR IDEAS ARE WELCOME ILL CHECK THEM ALL.. i LINED UP tdc AGAIN AND FOUND THE TIMING MARK ON THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WAS A BIT ADVANCED ABOUT A 1/4" PAST THE "T" MARK ON THE TIMING COVER, COULD THIS BE ADVANCED TOO MUCH FOR THE ECU NOT TO SEND ANY SPARK? i ALSO COULD NOT FIND ANY INFO ON THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR THAT ACTUALLY MOUNTS TO THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT. THE LITTLE SLOTTED CYLINDER SLEEVE THAT ROTATES CAN BE INSTALLED 2 DIFFERENT WAYS IT IS THE SLEEVE THAT THE SENSOR READS OFF OF THERE IS NO MARK THAT I COULD SEE TO LINE UP, I TRYED IT IN BOTH POSITIONS AND STILL NO SPARK.. ALSO THIS CAR CAME WITH A TOP OF THE LINE AFTERMARKET ALARM THAT WAS WIRED TO EVERYTHING. I CAREFULLY CUT OUT THE ENTIRE ALARM AND STILL NO SPARK.. DOES ANY ONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE FACTORY ANTI THEFT SYSTEM IN THESE CARS I BELEIVE THIS IS ALSO STILL WORKING ON THIS CAR. COULD THIS COIL PACK HAVE WENT OUT JUST LIKE THAT, POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND OR SENSING BLADE??RELAYS?? SENSORS?? TIMING?? HELP!!!!
Could be the coil pack, but most of the time, it has something to do with the cam angle sensor, or crank angle sensor.. If the timing is off a tooth, it will still run.. It will run like crap and knock but it should still get spark.
I agree. Check the timing again just to be sure and on the safe side, but I think the cam/crank sensor is either not connected or the are/is bad. I would also check to be sure that the power transistor is properly connected as that will cause the plugs to not fire ... along with the rest of the ignition too, so check the connections there too.
The factory alarm didn't have a starter kill, so I suggest making sure that the aftermarket alarm did not have a set of relays connected to the ignition harness.
There really aren't too many ways to connect the cam sensor wheel. As for it's position, I'll have to look at my old one, but I know what you're thinking ... there has to be a "TDC" of sorts for that wheel, right.
Ok, I've been corrected on this before, so I will throw this bit of info out for you on the crank sensor. There are three styles: one for the 6 bolts have the cam/crank sensor on the the passenger side of the head with a green or black circular device mounted to the intake cam shaft; 2G motors have the cam sensor on the intake (like yours) and the crank sensor on the crank (down low and you have to remove the timing belt cover and crank gear to get to it); then theres the 2G motors that have a stubby sensor on the passenger side of the head just like the 1Gs.

Cool info thanks..Yeah, actually I think IAM getting spark cause I sprayed Starting fluid in the throttle body for the hell of it and the car tryed to start lol.. But when I check for spark using a spark tester or a spark plug and laying the plugandwire in sight and cranking the motor I cannot see any spark even in the dark on all cyls. "Im grounding the side of the plug to the - negbattery with a jumper.. This has worked for me for years but not on this car.. WTF!! weird...Im now thinking it could be apossible fuel problem. Take in fact I got this car not running so there could lie other surprises other than the head and T- Belt job.. Well I disconnected the high pressure fuel line that mounts to the side of the fuel rail and turned the Ignition to ONand nothing happen, but then when I tryed to start the car (Turned it over) the fuel came out of the line.. In my book it says that by turning the ignition toON onthis car it will energize the fuel pump and prime the fuel system with fuel pressure but my car only pumps fuel when it is cranked over, and it stillwont start. Also the book says there will be no fuel pressure in the fuel return hose if the overall fuel pressure is weak. Well I turned the car over a bunch of times andthen went and pulled off the fuel return hose located on the fuel pressure regulator, according to the book I believe fuel should have been under pressure there abit, but it just kind of dribbled out when I pulled the hose.. Not sure what kind of pressure should come out of that return hose cause its not really supposed to be a high pressure hose.. Unfortunatley I dont have the special fitting to check the fuel pressure with my FPgauge so Im guessing here.. Possible fuel cloggedfilter ?? $22 possible fuel pump ?? $185 Possible Fuel Pump relay ?? Special order.. Do you hear the fuel pump come on on these cars when you turn the Ignition to the ON possition? ECU sending wrong or no info to the injectors?? All bad injectors?? Installed them wrong?? So many things it could be HELP...
You should be able to smell fuel after trying to start it for a few seconds.. Make sure your plugs are cleaned up and not all fouled up. If you smell gas though after a little while of trying to start it, you are getting fuel.. Have you done a compression test? Shouldnt be the issue, but never hurts to check that. That would be the next thing to try..
A compression test is not a bad idea.. But as far as fuel there is fuel in the fuel rail, the pressure I dont know.. But most importantly there is no fuel intering the cyls.. The new spark plugs are bone dry after cranking the motor serveral times.. If by cahnce I have weak fuel pressure in the fuel rail but still fuel, will the injectors squirt ANYTHING in the cyls on is this a ECU issue? Also as a question before do you guys hear your fuel pump come on momentarily when you turn the key to the ignition On position on these cars? Mine only gets fuel when cranking the motor..

ya.. The fuel pump will make a noise when you first turn the key on to get pressure in there.. If your not hearing anything it very well could be that. If you pull your plugs and have no gas at all on them after trying to start it for a while I would bet sebba's life that its fuel related
But first things first, make sure you hear your fuel pump..
