Additives

RE: Additives
Fuel additives/drop in injector cleaners are generally a gimmick. Injectors are cleaned and kept clean when you drive on the interstate a few times a month. The injector cleaners do work on cars driven only in the city, but for cars driven faster than 50MPH for a constant time, those cleaners just waste your money. The only thing I recommend doing is cleaning the intake manifold since the EGR can cake that up with carbon. That can be done with Seafoam or the likes and that steam cleans chambers too. Octane booster, google it. All I can tell you is not to substitute it for the real thing. In other words, don't put in 89-91 and hope to get 92-93 because you won't get that. When they say that you can get up to 5-10 points, they mean ".5 - 1". You are better off mixing your own hazardous brew.
Bottom line is that these things do one thing and that's hide the real issue(s) or just make you think that they work...ok, so that's two things. Replace the o2 sensor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil, lifters, PVC, etc; clean the intake, air filter, EGR valve, chambers, etc. Ever wonder why high performance guys who "use" their high performance cars never use these things? Carbon buildup is the most common things seen, but the other stuff is usually changed out, either for preventative maintenance or just because it's broke. lol
