alcohol injection kit
ok guys,
I have a 97 GSX and have been considering building an alcohol injection kit for it for quite sometime now. I know how it works and everything like that I was just wondering if anybody in the forum actually has any experience with one and how it worked out for them, is it worth it etc thanks

There's been a couple of people i've met that have done water injection, and used a water/alcohol mix sometimes. It seems like a pretty good idea, but many people don't like the idea of introducing that type of danger to the engine. What i mean is, with water injection, If something goes wrong with the system, you could end up with a seized engine. Of course that won't happen with alcohol injection, the alcohol would evaporate rather quickly on any heated surface, but people still have a fear of it. That and plus Nitrous is just so darn cheap now-a-days and offers a bit more than alcohol. Besides cooling the intake air and allowing a denser mixture, the proportion of O2 molecules in the intake charge is much greater when the Nitrous Oxide breaks down, so the combustion is more complete and leaves fewer particles of unburned gasoline. The alcohol is not a terribley complex carbon-based molecule, but is does carry additional Carbon and Hydrogen atoms. When some of the alcohol breaks down before reaching the combustion chamber, it will form some rather tough chains of Hydrocarbons that may not ignite as easily as the alcohol. Although the Alcohol will promote a quicker and hotter burn and will lower the intake temps a little, It's still limited by how much Oxygen is the intake charge. I would actually prefer an alcohol injection system over Nitrous though. The Alcohol system is much safer and won't put as much stress on the engine. It's been around for decades now, so it must be doing something right.
However, Many DSMer's just throw on a bigger intercooler to reduce intake temps and get more power. I dunno....
