Good luck cuz first off you have told NOTHING about the stang. What is he running? All stock or has he beefed a bit? Also I can't tell you what to launcch at or where to shift as I don't know your car. If you're asking US to tell you that then the BEST thing for you to do is go out one night to an abanded parking lot and practice practice practice. The more you try the better you'll get. You need to learn your car and learn what works best for you as a driver and the car as a machine. Diferent pars react different ways as well as different methods of braking in affecting how the vehicle likes to drive. Ask anyone worth a damn in racing they'll tell you probably close to the same thing.

i actually raced a 5.0 from a stop w/out a launch. This was also before my exhaust, i took him aff the line then by third he caught back up to even. But i think the one i raced had exhaust. I would say if he is stock and w/ the mods you have you should already be able to take him. With good driving of course.
Don't worry, you'll eat that mustang up all day and night. In my 91 GSX 60% of my races were up against those toilets. I'm sure their are some fast stangs, but most of those guys don't **** talk and waste there time with street races. Even when my eclipse was lightly modded I destroyed a 95 mustang, he had full bianki exhaust w/Xpipe, BFG Drag Radials, intake,MSD, 150 wet shot. I have the video, he raced me three time. Two times where from a stop, no contest for him and from a roll I edged him out by a car that was from 50mph. Just be careful thats all, I'm not indorsing street races, when I say street I mean track, you know.
dude you should def. be able to beat that rustang. The 5.0 was a strong car but with what you have plus the awd you should take him. If you dont beat him your doing something wrong. I took a 97 gt with the 4.6L by a car length with my 97 gst w/ turbo-back exhaust, injen intake, hsk bov, hard intercooler pipes, MSD wires, and he had full flowmaster exhaust. So what im sayin is you should beat him.
