blow off valve
"Loud BOV “Blow Off Valve” :
Many new people want the pssshhh sound right off the bat. To make the loud sound requires you to vent the bov to the atmosphere. This can cause some performance problems because the stock ecu compensates for that burst of air going back into the intake. This can cause negative effects on performance"
ok i was reading this and when is the right time to put the BOV? how do i "vent the bov to the atmosphere" if it all works right i will be getting my 1998 gs-t on saturday...when should i hook up the BOV first thing i will do is put an intake..but i dont get it when it says that i must adjust it to the atmosphere?

The suggested thing to do is to get a gm mas hwich and befound on many dsm sites for aftermarket parts. Here is what happenes when your bov opens in vets into the intake. and the mas compensates for this causing rpms to go lower and the car to run a little richer at this point in time. so by putting on a gm mas and removing the recurculation tube no effects like this happen. here is a link where you can find one http://dsm.dejonpowerhouse.com/
Dont Vent the BOV with out teither the GM MAF or a standalone. like already said the car will run rich. basicly by venting the BOV the motor is expecting that air back so it adds fuel but when that air is released and vented out you just get the fuel and teh car will stumble. I have had my EVO stall out coming to a stop and the idle bounces and it also cause a little more turbo lag between shifts.
If you chose not to take my advise as many people just have to have the loud BOV you can just unhook the tube from the BOV and plug the hole on the intake and your done, but dont expect the car to run very well it makes the car kinda hard to drive. 1st gear will try and stall out and you can just accellerate by useing half of the gas pedal. when you vented its all or nothing. what happens when you give half throttle is the bov is slightly open the car will start to jump and buck untill you let off the gas but for all that there is a much louder difference in the BOV

here is an idea if you have quicktime

There is one alternative that was not addressed and that is a dual stage bov this vents and recirculates the air when the bov is engaged.
