Default Brakes and rotors?

The guys I went to get an oil change told me I needed to get my brakes and rotors changed asap. Meanwhile the guys CHANGING my brakes are telling me my rotors are fine, and that you rarely need to replace them. Anyone got words on this? I looked at my rotors today, and saw scratch marks on it, probably because the pads are gone and it was rubbing against metal. What do you think? Rotors change necessary?

If the metal backing for the pads was scraping on the rotor, you sure as hell would hear it when you touched the brake!

The only way to tell is to look at the old pads. There will naturally be little ridges in the rotor, so don't worry about that.

I f-ing hate shyster ********. Go some place else

yea if it was grinding before when you pressed on the pedal then theres a good chance you'll need to get new rotors cause they'll be gouged (spelling??)... if not then i wouldnt really worry about it... another reason to change rotors is if they're warped, so when you press your pedal and the car starts to shake then you'll need new rotors

Usually when the pads go bad, all that needs to happen is the rotors will get turned. As long as there is still enough thickness to the rotor, the shop will do this instead. So without seeing them we cant say, but get a second opinion.
