buying my first eclipse... what to look for
hi everyone, i'm new to the board and looking at buying my first eclipse. I"m kinda new to the import world and just wanted some insight on what to look for while shopping for an eclipse. I'm looking at somewhere between a 94 and 97 with a 5 speed tranny. Just wondering if there are certain things to look for, certain engines/trannies that are liked more, etc. Thank you all for your help

Gsx or Gst... 4g63 motor... easy mods. Gs is okay but if you plan to turbo it you will also have to beef the drivetrain.
Things to watch for... Lifter tick, crank walk(more prevelant on 97-99).
they changed headlights (correct me if im wrong) in 97. So it is hard (not impossible) to find headlight replacement. also most body kits fit the 97-99 better.
Also check the timing belt and its replacement history... DSMs are great cars but only if they have been taken care of. timing belt needs to be replaced @ 60 K... because if it breaks you might as well go looking for a new car or at least a new engine for your car. DOHC is great but it does have its issues.
Hope this helps...

96 - 97 is probly gonna be your best bet in that price range in decent condition. i dunno how much the gst or gsx runs for newer than that. also make sure u get it checked out before you buy it, by someone you trust, there are a lot of things on those cars that a dealer, or mech shop will try and rip you off on, especially if u dont know to much about the car
It also depends on where you live it can be more like where I live there are not many sports cars so the price is very high for my gsx. You will want to bring it into a mechanic if you buy from a private seller take it to a good mechanic to check it over because ther can be many things wrong
