RE: charcoal can - discontinued item
Well, if the fumes are coming from up front, it could be what Josh stated or the vapor hose that connects to the canister came undone.
There should also be a check valve on that vapor hose, make sure that's on it. It's supposed to open when the tank has built some pressure in it. Without it, it just releases the pressure and fumes.
Does your gas tank hiss when you open the gas cap?
Let me wake up a bit more and I'll come back to this.

3G Evap canister
ORIGINAL: Dusty Eclipse
We got a part # for the 3G version of this Silver? Would this explain why my car smells like gas ever since the engine swap?

Dusty, your evap canister is in the rear with the gas tank (2.4L or 3.0L) (kudos Josh). I don't think this is your issue if the gas smell is more up front (my thoughts on it since you mentioned swap). The evap purge solenoid is up front however and this may be the cause.
I would check for old worn out EGR hoses Dusty. Something was either not connected correctly or something fuel related was not tightened down enough bro.
Sorry I couldn't find you a part number. I have CAPS for the 1G-2G but not for 3G or the 4G.
