Default Cold Start Squeal... PLEASE HELP...

I have a 1998 GSX and when i start the car when its cold there is a squeal that lasts for about 5 - 10 seconds from one of the accessory belts ... the squeal only happens on a COLD car ... but when i start the car when it i sWARM there is no squeal... Does any one know something that will help me get rid of the noise...the squealing seems to be coming from the beltthat runs on the power sterring pump.....any help would be apprecaited...

thanks

get a new belt... it has stretched a bit over time, and since it is colder the belt is not as soft so it allows it to slip a bit under load until it warms up or is free of the load... it shouldn't be too hard or too expensive either.

yea wd-40 or some sort of belt dressing you can pick up from autozone or advance auto,, spray it on the sides of the belt that actually touch the pulleys and see what happens, that could be a fix. but if it persists then yea just replace it

b4 you just start throwing wd-40 on your belts, inspect them, mine were doing the same thing and i look at it and i had a 4 inch tear down the belt.

why would you do a "quick fix" on a 12 dollar part? ok.... 12.75 w/ tax and 10 mins of time.
