Electrical Problem
I was simply driving down the highway at about 60-65 mph nothing out of the ordinary. All of a sudden I hear this weird popping buzzing electrcity noise. I look down and notice that all of the gauges except the gas gauge are at zero. I pulled over and I could not unlock the car to get out of it and the windows would not roll down. I tried restarting it and the car would spontaneously regain and then lose power. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? The noise seems to be coming from somewhere are the fusebox that is located under the dash in the front of the car on the driver-side. Nothing that uses electricity and is in the interior of the car works other than the instrument and gauge panel lights, I have an aftermarket audio system which also has no power. Also, the antenna no longer retracts into the car when turning it off. I also have remote-start and keyless entry. Originally, using any of the remote buttons caused the exterior car lights to flash, this no longer happens. Occasionally when backing up the rear bumper lights will stay on. Is there one thing that could be causing all of this? It seemed to happen all at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like a short. Check the wires under the dash to see if any are cooked. Also check you fues box under the hood and under the dash. If some fuses are blown DO NOT PLUG ANOTHER ONE BACK IN. Unhook the battery and follow the wires from the blown fuses to see if you can find the short. BTW how did u get out of the car??
I got out of the car because while driving the car would sporatically regain and then lose power. I unlocked the doors while it had power and was able to get out when I stopped the car. I looked at the fuse box in a dire attempt to save money and not go to a mechanic and pay him 100 dollars to look at my car and tell me he didn't know what was wrong. I first checked the internal fuse box and made sure all the fuses where tight. I started the car and backed it up about 5 feet onto my driveway and then did the same for the fuse box in the front of the car. After this, everything has worked fine except for the "room lights" and aftermarket stereo.
