i have recently blown my engine in my 97'eclipse rs. it is a 2.0 4cyl. non-turbo. any ideas as to where i can get a new engine?</P>

how do you know it is blown? what is the car doing when you try to start it? dose it even try to turn over?

 

when i was on my way home from school i heard this bang like noise and then lots of smoke came out from behind, inside, and under the hood of my car. i dont know much about cars so i had my mechanic neighbor look at it and he said that there was a hole in the block the size of a small fist.

 

so a rod punched a hole in the block. how many miles on the car. has it had its normal oil changes? have you tryed to start the car at all? i have a 97 rs motor in my shop. thinking about parting with it. has 59000 on it.

 

the car has 73000 miles on it, the oil change wasa little late by about a month. i havent tried to start the car, i didnt think it would be good with it not having any oil in it. most of it leaked out when the rod punch the hole.

 

well try starting it, wont hurt it. tell me what happens. if you hear a little grinding tell me. if it is a lot tell me.

 

i dont have the car with me, i will have to try it tomorrow.

 

ok well you have 2 options. 1 you can salvage the motor and bebuild it, you will have to fix the block and get new pistons. looking at about 2 grand. might sell my motor for 1500. or you could get a new on shipped from japan for about 2600. but for that price i would just upgrade to a turbo motor. i have a 95 GS-t. might sell for 5000. has 88000 miles and a lot of upgrades.

 

Japan doenst have the Eclipse 4g63..... the Eclipse and Eagel talon was built but DSM wich is a US branch jointed with Chrysler , and if theres a hole the size of a fist in the block whats the point of trying to start it...... theres a hole in the block....... the size of a fist....... and please... dont fix the block get yer self a nice Turbo 2.0 liter</P>
