Default Engine Modification... HELP!

Well, think of it like this: Get a good sized turbo like a 16g. Now get two engines, a 2.0 and a 2.4. The 2.0 will make good power, but the 2.4 will make more power and spool the turbo quicker. So on a dyno, you'll see the powerband of a 2.4 be a lot wider than that of a 2.0. Also, since the 4g64 has a longer stroke and is undersquare, it inherently has more low end torque. So a 4g64 will have more power at a more useable rpm.

It really is true, there is no replacement for displacement. Do the same amount of mods on a small engine and a bigger engine and the bigger engine will always make more power, sooner. Although some people will say that the replacement for displacement is boost, which is better a built turbo 4g63 or a built turbo LS1? I'll tell you right now, i've PERSONALLY seen a supercharged LS1 TransAm put down 603hp. The only other things it had were filter, injectors, fuel pump, fmu, and pistons. Everything else was stock. Even the exhaust system. It kinda makes me wanna buy a Trans Am....

You say its better for race a 2.4? The 2.4 kill the 2.0 with a big turbo? Same in top speed?

Default Engine Modification... HELP!

Well, you can make any car go fast with a slow engine. You can also make any engine into a race engine. The 4g64 is naturally good for road tracks becuase of it's broad torque curve. However, it doesn't rev as high as the 4g63. You can spend some cash and make it a hiv revver, but the 4g63 would probably still redline higher if you were to do the same. In a drag race, you'll need a good engine with torque curve that show up more at the top end, like a 4g63. In a 4g64, about 80% of the torque shows up at around 2500rpm. Good for normal street driving, but it doesn't help in a drag race. Of course you can swap cams and get a hogged out head, and the torque curve would rise up the rev rangeconsiderably, but if you did the same with a 4g63, the 4g63would be the better drag racing engine.Anyway, the point is there is no limit to what you can do and either engine will work just as well as the otherwith enough cash. Referring to my first statement, you need a good power to weight ratio. A lot of experienced racers have found that you only need 350whp to reach an 11sec 1/4 mile. The next step is to lose weight....
