heard some bad things about eclipse's
hey i been looking for a eclipse for a long time now and have been to many dealers and they all told me that eclipse is a bad car. is that true? they dealers i have been to told me that they have bad transmissions and always have engine problems. and i need to no if thats true so i no if im going to buy a good car or a piece of junk.
If you get a manual transmission they are very good trannys but the automatics suck! Plus the automatics are really slow. The engines on them are sometimes bad it depends on how bad the previous owner abused it. I just put a Japan Direct engine in mine because my old engine was gone. That was a 3500 dollar fix! I hope this helps!

no problems man. mines a 97 and the only thing Ive done is a new clutch.. Im at about 62,000 miles so it was time, and the usual 60,000 mile tune up with the timing belt replacement and I needed a new water pump.. other than that, all is good, just have to know how to take care of things
thats exactly what I was saying., if you know how to take care the car, ya probably wont run into engine problems and stuff.. I used to have a 95 GSX and now I got 01 GS, both running fine... havent had any problem with it..
What kind of dealer is telling you this? They obviously aren't Mitsubishi dealers... and if the dealer telling you this is actually trying to sell you an Eclipse, then it's the worst salesman ever!
In the transmissions - the manual is more dependable than the automatic...however, you may want to ask the last time the clutch was changed out.
As for the engine -- from what I hear, the non-turbo are more dependable, but not as fast.

non turbo is going to be "more" reliable for the fact that they don't heat up nearly as much, PLUS N/A engines have a lot less parts to **** up. ya know? the less that there, the less the chance of it breakin.
