Sup!! i've been thinking about making the engine swap for my 98 eclipse GS, and i've been looking for information, and everything seems to be fine... But a friend told me to check on the engine supports (i don't know how are the called, the ones that keep the engine in place) sin he has done this to hondas and he has encountered the probleman that these supports are not located in the same place in one model with the other. My question is... Are these "supports" located in the same place in the GS as the GST? lets say if they are, what else should I consider to double check in order to change the engine?

ok the mounts in a gs-t/gsx are the reverse of the GS. so you would have to move motor mounts. Also if you are considering changing the motor from a GS"420a" to a GS-T/GSX"4g63" there is more than motor mounts and a longblock swap. you need everthing out of the GST/GSX ecm, pcm, wireing harnness, etc.... it is alot of hassle but if you can get a eclpise that the rear has been wiped out or somthing like that it would not be to hard to get the parts just a lot of labor.

 

thanks, but i'm thinking bout changing the 4g63 for the 4g63t, are you sure that I would need to change the mounts? if this is the case, how hard is it to move them?

You have a 98 GS you do not have a 4g63 stock u have a 420a. you would swap for a 4g63 which in 95-99 is the only turboed motor.

 

Is the 420a the same 2.0 DOHC? the reason i'm not really sure is because I still don't have the GS

 

the 420a is a 2.0DOHC so is the 4g63. the differance one is made by Chrysler and one is made by mitsu. the years of 95-99 have 2 differant motors all years before have 4g63 stock. here is a sight to help ya. Dsm tuner this will show all models and there motors.

 

how dificult is it to change the position of the mounts? how much can this cost?

 

Also check www.hahnracecraft.com Forget about the swap, this company makes a setup for your 420a. It is expensive and time-consuming to perform an engine swap from N/A to Turbo, you might as well sell the gs and buy the gst/x if want turbo bad enough to swap.
