Default Idleing Problem

I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS that has an idleing problem. The car runs fine, justwhen I am sitting at a stop light or parked, the engine chokes up like it is going to die but then recovers. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know what the deal is>?

I have a 99gs and I have the same problem. I will be sitting at a light or a stop sign and it will drop from about 1000 rpms to 500 rpms then get back to 1000.

I had the same problem on my 96 rs. It only started after Someone put mid grade gas in it. you can go ahead and replace the sensor but I rode around for 2 years and it never caused a problem.

IT's one of the sensor's on the throttle body...it's on the back of the t body...back right,it's got a spring load thing in it.it's or or the one on the left of the throttle body, the one in the center back is a heat sensor.

There's also the tps, that should be opposite of where the throttle cable attatches.

It could be some of those sensors that others are saying but the most common thing to give you rough idle is a vacuum leak. I would go through your vacuum lines and make sure they are all snug and none of them are cracked or ripped.

or you could just go to autozone and have them do a test on your car, thats if only your check engine light is on.Because that is how my eclipse is idleing right now...it's one of the sensors.

Good call customizedrides, I always forget about vacume, not matter how many times it is brought up it just never sticks out when I'm thinking of an idle problem but you could very well be right on on that one.
