Default Lancer question

Whats up everyone. im new obviousley, and i got a question for all you mechanics out there. on my 2004 lancer es, would it be possible to put a first or second generation turbo on my car. Actually could i do any other dsm turbo or would i need one specifically for my lancer. Thanks <IMG src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>dexterdizzle</editID><editDate>38057.7661226852</editDate></edited>

The most logical swap is the japanese 4g93t. It's available in japanese lancers, and is a 1.6 liter turbo engine. The best reason is becauseyour transmission *should* bolt on to this engine with no problems. Also, the 4g93t has a built bottom end and can withstand almost as much abuse as a 4g63. The 1g and 2g 4g63 engine most likely won't fit into your engine bay because of orientation. In the dsm cars, the engine is on the right and the tranny is on the left. On your lancer, 3g eclipse's(they aren't dsm's), 5g galants and up, and the new evolution, the orientation is opposite(engine on the left and tranny on the right). Now you might wanna look at the new evolution and see if you could swap in that 4g63, but you'll need a *lot* of custom parts. Custom parts = money, so you better have money to waste. This is definitely not a weekend job because you'll be swapping the tranny and engine also. You will probably be the first person to do this swap also....since now most people will just go buy the lancer evolution. </P>

Now if you wanna just put on a turbocharger, talk to RRE. They did a custom job on one of their customers cars. I'm not sure if there's a kit for this engine, but also hit up turbochargers.com They make kits for like everything.</P>

That's cool, RRE is Road/Race Engineering. Talk to Mike, he's a pretty cool guy and will help you out a lot. Turbo kit is alright, but i'd entertain the idea of the 4g93t since the price would probably be about the same as a turbo kit, plus you'll get built internals and a jdm-type-machine. With your current 2.0l, you'll only run a limited amount of boost, probably no higher than 10psi, which will give you a decent power increase. Probably take you up to 200hp witha good turbo. But i hope all this works out for you, good luck.

Maybe in it's stock form it won't put out as much as your engine with a basic turbo kit, but that can change very quickly with an intake and exhaust upgrade. The <FONT size=1>4g93t is almost as strong as4g63, but in stock form it won't put out that much because the stock turbocharger is kinda small. A quick upgrade to a 14b will net you more power and is cheap to boot. In stock form, i think it puts out 180hp, but a few mods can easily take it to the 200hp mark. Plus with the 4g93t, the stock low compression piston can take a lot of abuse before going out. The 2.0l pistons would probably shatter if you pushed it pass 10psi. Well, it's kinda hard to find an importer if you don't live in cali or florida. But the internet is a wonderful thing and you can do a quick search for japanese importers. </FONT></P>
