Default this may be a silly question

i have a 98 eclipse gs with a 420a non turbo,about 145k miles on it.
for what it is its fairly quick. its got a decent top end, ive had it up to about 120 myself, but its got nothing off the line. when i get on it from a standstill theres just no power. when i get on it from about 30-40 mph it will put you back in the seat a bit. but when i let off the gas theres a strong sulpher smell in the car.theres no idle problems, no cruising problems,no knocking or pinging, theres nothing that seems like a routine vacuum leak.fuel consumption doesnt seem to have changed.
i was wondering if this might sound like an EGR valve issue to anyone.
