Motor Swap
What about the neon R/T motor. I think i've been seeing that the neons use the 420a is this true and is it in the R/T???? I know nothing about the neons but if its the same motor couldn't I just use the turbo set up from that if i could find one at a junk yard for cheap???? If not plz explain why
Well yes the 98 neon r/t uses the same motor... kinda lol. First off the neon and 420a eclipse share one thing, the block, thats it. Everything else is different, for the better and for the worse in some cases. The neon has a different cyl head on it which shoots the exaust down the back side of the block and under the fire wall and out the back, where the eclipse 420a shoots the exaust out the front off the motor, down the front of the block, under the motor and out the back. Basically its a different downpipe/manifold desgine, also the oil line kit that comes with the turbo kits are different to acomidate the turbos position. Lastly they have different fuel line setups, which the kit compensates for, basically if you get a turbo kit for a neon it wont fit your eclipse.
The first pic is a 420a in an eclipse, the second is a 420a in a r/t neon. Notice how they have the same style valve cover and the cam gears are on the same side, yet notice the intake runners and the fuel rail on facing the front of the car where on the eclipse's 420a the hedder is facing the front of the car.
