Default O2 sensor heater and EGR error

Ok, so my "service" light came on, then it went off, then it came on... It keeps going on and off. I have an AEM intake installed and took my car to a place that used a snap-on comp. It said my O2 sensor heater was dead and I have an EGR error. I looked into getting a new O2 sensor but they don't look like the honeycomb metal thing in the middle of my intake. My best guess is that replacing the sensor will turn this light off. I don't know which sensor is the right one though... I drive a 2003 eclipse GT spyder with the positronic (auto) trans. But I'm still confused as to why the light turns off. If my O2 sensor was bad why would the light turn off? wouldn't it just stay on? I've checked all the connections and they are all tight and it doesn't seem to have any frayed wires or anything. Before I replace the sensor is there anything else I can do? Also is the O2 sensor on the intake the right one causing this error, or is it a different O2 sensor? When I unhook the battery for a few minutes to reset the comp the light goes off for anywhere from 20 - 50 miles of driving then it pops back on, I figure if the O2 sensor was fried it would pop on sooner than that. Any advice is appreciated, I'm confused. If ya couldn't tell this is the first car I have ever done more than change the oil on and would like to do my own work rather than pay someone to fix it.

OK, so it could be one of 2 things i can see... one I can get to from the engine compartment at the very beginning of the exhaust and one is a little further down the exhaust under the car. Which one is it? and could it possible be fixed in any way or just replaced?
