i have a 96 Mitsubishi eclipse RS with the 420a motor, i recently got around to changing my thermostat,(yes i put the thermostat in correctly but my car is still overheating, it has new antifreeze 50/50 mix the radiator is also relatively new and in excellent condition, im at loss, nothing comes to mind about what else could be the problem and causing it to overheat and im 99.9% positive it isnt just one gauge not working, please help, soon.

The car smokes some but thats just oil from expierence thats kind of a habit 420a motors seem to have and im not losing coolant ive checked all my hoses, my only thoughts now are its either my radiator cap or a bad water pump. but it takes no time to overheat maybe 3 minutes of driving? im afraid its the water pump and if it is that means timing belt has to come off and possibly other stuff, im not sure, just dont look like a lot of room to get to it.
