Default Problems with 420a engine

Ok I recently bought a 98 Eclipse RS with a bad motor for $800. Originally I bought this car thinking all I had to do is replace the head gasket, because it smoked. But once we got into it, we found the gaskets weren’t too bad and it had a shattered piston and rod. The cylinder had a deep gash in it and another piston seemed to be going bad. So now we are into this car for $800 and a new engine. To rebuild the engine would be more trouble than it is worth. I am now looking into all my options. I cant seem to find a new 420a to replace it and I have heard that the 4g63 will not fit. If anyone has any ideas for me I would much appreciate them. If You have a 420a with 60 or 70k on it you want to get rid of I would be very interested. I have heard the 2.4 block will fit with the 2.0 head but I do not know the problems I will have with the RPMs. Or even where to find a 2.4 block. (what cars do they come out of) Could a complete 420a DOHC 2.4 fit my eclipse? What would I need to change? What Cars carry the 420a that fit my car? I heard there are Neon’s that share this engine as well. WHERE CAN I FIND A 420A FOR MY CAR?

personaly i think you would be better off pulling the old motor and getting it re-sleved than rebuild the motor. if you dont want to do it than send it to a macinest that can have it done in a few days. plus you would have a guarantee on the motor fpr example i rebuild the motor in my truck and the macinest that did it guarantee it no to break down as long as i took care of it "regular mantince". it ran like a beast and i havent had a problem plus you would be putting a new motor in insted of a used one that somone has already beat the **** out of it.
Juat an idea!

2.4 liter 420a engine that are compatible with the NA 2g eclipse are found in older Dodge Caravans and some of the cloud cars. Basically anything with a Chrysler badge from the '90s that boasts a 2.4l engine will be the 420a. The 2.4l will fit right into the eclipse engine bay. You're thinking right too, keep the 2.0 head and just swap blocks. Mopar has a wide array of parts for the DOHC 420a engines thanks to the Neon ACR and R/T models competing in autocross. From mild cams to all out race parts, Mopar will have them. Also, machining the block may not be such a bad idea. Just make sure the crank and bearings are ok and within specs. It's hard to imagine how a 140hp 1998cc engine shattered a piston......nitrous?

It' will give about 10-15hp if you keep the CR the same, but will enhance the torque curve quite a bit. Your redline "should" be limited to about 6500rpm, not really a problem though since the power band will start lower in the rev range and peak lower than the 2.0 liter. So in other words, you won't need to rev as high to get in the engine's sweet spot. The reason you will want to keep the rev's below 6500rpm is because the stock 2.4l rods and crank weren't built to spin past that, however a set of uprated rods and a strengthed crank will allow you to rev freely if you wish. All around performance will be better than the 2.0l, you'll definitely feel the torque that the 2.4l will produce. If you are going to do the swap, now would be a good time to figure out your ultimate plans with the car. Do you want to go turbo, or keep it naturally aspirated? For some reason, I would prefer a keeping it NA. There was a 2.7l 420a powered Neon that was featured in Car&Driver that made quite a bit of power naturally aspirated, so i always thought it would be cool to take one to the max. Plus, it would be unique since just about everything has a turbo on it now-a-days. But it's your choice, just have fun with the car!

How will I know if the engine is Fuel injected or not?

Can anyone Help with the mounting problems? What are they? I have heard that the only thing is the passanger side mount, but how would i fix this and what kind of shop would do this work?

you would know if it was carburated just by lookin at the engine, there would be no fuel rail and youd have a carburator sitting litterally right on top of the engine.
