Default Radio on a 2G

Purchased a pioneer stereo to replace the factory unit. Primarily because the factory CD player would not play MP3 CD's. Used a eclipse installation kit off e-bay. This kit is really nice. Fit perfectly and easy to install. Since the factory unit has the radio and a seperate CD, the kit comes with a storage box to replace the lower unit. Kit also comes with a pigtail to attach directly to the eclipse plug. Overall a nice kit.

Now for the issue. Radio worked excellently for a week and then had no output. Took it back to the shop and the person from their repair area said we needed to disconnect the amplifier. I said that the car does not have an aftermarket amplifyer. He said there is a factory amplifyer behind the glove box. I have looked all over my manuals and cant figure out what he is talking about. Is he just blowing smoke up my a--?

PS. They did replace the stereo.

no most if not all factory amps are under the passenger seat. but thats only if you have in Infinity sound system. if you do have the factory amp under your seat. look at it and maybe the plug got unplugged.

if you do or dont have the amp, it never hurts to check your connects on the harness....maybe theres a bad connection or something got unplug....you never know.

most times the solution is the simplist

It would help if we knew what model car you had.

If it was equipped with the Infinity premium sound package then the amp will be under the passenger seat, not behind the glove box. If it doesn't have a stock infinity system then there isn't an amp.

Thanks all. Car is a 97 RS. Has a am/fm unit on the top and a CD unit on the bottom. There is a cable that goes to the rear hatch area. The plug on it leads me to believe it was for a multi-diskchanger. The radio is a Mitsubishi. Did not find anything under the seat. Unit appeared to have an internal short. Everything worked but no sound. New unit, with the first unit pigtail is working fine.

I think this was just a bad unit.
