Reversed Cam Gears????
Ok, got an issue and a local shop told me that my cam gears might be reversed. Here's how it goes:
1. I've got a REALLY LOW idle. We're talking in the 600-800 range. When I turn hard left or right while in gear, sometimes the car just dies.
2. A lot of times I'll get a squealing noise like when the belt is too tight.
3. I can smell the fuel, so I know it's running really rich, almost flooding.
4. I've adjusted the throttle body, but that does nothing (I've been told DSM computers adjust the throttle so adjusting the throttle body linkage does no good).
What does it sound like to you guys? I gotta get it fixed soon, because it's annoying.
btw: it's a 5spd GS no boost with skunk2 cams, cold air, and full exhaust if that helps.

My guess is just that your cams are just too big for your car. Bigger cams usually give you a really sad idle. Did you buy the car with them or put them on yourself? If you put them on yourself, did the problem start after that?
600-800 is not really low idle. Idle should be around 750-850 rpms. But there really is not reason to have those cams in that car. I would check your battery connections or the juice in the battery because when your turning your power steering is drawing power, and the battery may not be putting out enough so then it will bog or die. That would be where i start
i have the same problem with the car losing power or even dying on realy hard turns, but only when i'm moving pretty slow. . . if i'm in a parking lot and have to turn all the way over to get into a spot, i basicallly have to ride the clutch and give the car gas or it will either sink down to about 200-400 rpms, or even die. . . and this is only when i turn it ALL THE WAY over. but it's wierd b/c my dad's Denali does the same thing
Yeah, that's exactly when mine does it. When i'm going really slow and the wheel is cranked all the way in one direction or the other. Like, if I turn the wheel all the way to the right and back out of a parking spot, once i roll to a stop i hafta give it gas or it will bog out on me. Also my belt squeaks too, just like RC Jr. I didn't mess with the cams, so I wouldn't know whether there are actually bigger cams or if he was just bull ****ting me. Anyway, this looks like a problem that's going to be bigger than me for sure. I guess I'm gonna hafta just find a shop that doesn't charge me an assload to do it.
i dont think you have a large issue here. First check the battery terminals to make sure your getting a clean connection. Next you might want to replace the power steering belt (that is what the squeking it). That is an easy fix and it needs to be done anyway, or it might just be loose. Then if that doesnt fix your problem then start looking into some sensors such a TPS or IAC.
yea i knwo i need to replace the belt... it's been sitting in my dad's garage for about 5 months now lol just been lazy, but now that i got my intercooler, piping, built block, turbo and a cleaned out car, i'm gettin motivated to actually do stuff now
