serious electrical help
i just bought this Eclipse 1992 Model, runs wonderful looks ok, picked it up for cheap. Anyway the dude that I bought it from said that it needed a new alternator, so I went out and bought one, well that's not the case. It's not charging my battery, but it is putting out 14.6VDC out the back of the alt. There's a few wires that I'm confused about, there's a small i'd say 22G yellow wire that got broken, don't know where it goes, it's right next to the 22G blue one underneath the alt. Anyway that's one of the wires, and the other wire is a larger yellow one, about 16G with a female end on it, I've got no clue where that one goes either. If somone knows something, please let me know. I've been through 2 batterys today driving it back home 50 miles, Oh yeah one other thing, whenever I hit the brake pedal, my cd player cuts out, what's going on with that?

good god what was the guy useing this car for before you bought it? did he rewire the thing himself? I dont have a 1G so im not really sure of any of this stuff either, but say grab a VOM or a multi meter which sounds like you already did
ok I think that I've found the problem, I'm 98.2% sure that it's the fuseable link between the starter and the alternator. Now this is my question, what size is that fuseable link? How many amps can it hold? I found this out by taking a strand of 8G wire from the output post on the alt to the batt. and it was charging! But once you remove that section of wire engine is runing off batt. I read the book as well and it said that could be one of the problems (fuseable link blown), but it doesn't tell me what's the max amperage it can sustain. If anyone knows please PLEASE, let me know.
again thanks.

First before replacing the fuseable link find out WHY it blew. (General rule I was taught when I took electronics was if an electrical part went there's a REASON... Find the reason fix the source problem and you won't have the part blow again) Just my personal recommendation. Also you MAY be able to call Pep Boys or Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts and they MAY be able to pull up the part for you and give you a price/availability of it.
ya like sang said, replacing a blown fuse is like sticking gum on it, tempory fix, the fues blew for a reason, check all of your hot wires around the area and make sure that their not touching anything thats grounded.
