The mass air flow sensor. It is the assembly that measures the air entering the engine.

that could be the problem with mine too. Seems like in the morning when I'm warming up the car, The idle is weird and I placed my hand by the air intake filter, it feels sucking huge amount of air into it. When that happened, the rpm going lower and slowly rises to 1500 and the car would go normal.

what I meant was, it will go up to 1500 and come back down to 800 and stay between 800-950

It's just the part when it makes weird suction noise, the car idle low like 600-700 and slowly rises to 1500 .

if its an air noise then its probably a leak.

I finally found the sputtering problem with my car. It's the fuel filter. Still original stock fuel filter from 1995. I got it replaced and runs like a champ. THanks

So i know this thread is like 6 years old. But if you guys are still here please help me lol. I have a 1999 eclipse gs, the kid i baught it from had a turbo on the car, well before i baught it he took it out, the car has a rough time idling. when i first got it the CEL was on so I took it to get scanned. It threw 3 codes, 1st was p1390 which come to find out is a timing code, "timing jumped 1 tooth or more"
i took the car to a few mechanics and they all said the timing is at the most a 1/4 of a tooth off if not perfect. 2nd code tps still need to replace. 3rd code MAF still need to replace. but my question is if they had a turbo on the car before and they took it out could the ecu be throwing timing codes cause its still tuned for a turbo? theres also a missfire in cylinder 1 code. i changed all the wires and plugs but to no avail. Mind you guys the wiring on this car is a monstrocity, lol. i wish i could restore it to its glory days.
