Default Spyder seat covers

Have 2001 Spyder. Trying to fit slip-over seat cover to seat backs. How is the shoulder harness guide (which is mounted to the top of the outboard position of the seat back top) removed? It appears to be a plastic piece inserted into a metal tube but I can't find a detent or other latching mechanism. Any suggestions short of removing the seats? Can the plastic back panels be removed without removing the seats?

the seat belt loop is attached to the steel frame of the seat. I have removed the seat back and it seems to be swaged together. no way to remove it without cutting.
does anyone know an alternant to cutting the post or cutting and sewing the seat? I tried but it looks bad.
