Default Stock Stereo in the 99 GST's?

First off, its been over a month since I had my ACT 2100 Street Clutch installed and its working perfectly fine. Ive been having problems with my radio though. Since I bought it about 8 months ago, every so often when the car was off and I start it back up I would get the "Off" code on the stereo. I read on it and it means the power was drained or not available and I would get the "Code" sign when it was powered normally again. That problem went away for awhile but it just went out again and its been stuck on "Off" for a week now. I was thinking about just replacing the stock stereo for an aftermarket but I was hoping to get the stock running first.

Is it possible the previous owner messed with the power or ground wires for the stereo when they installed their gauges and turbo timer? They took the gauges out when they sold it and left the turbo timer though. Or is it the fuse could possibly have finally crapped out? Thanks for any help people.

So the radio is totally off? you cant even put inthe code or anything. If thats what it is then it sounds like a power issue. Id say maybe a fuse. I dont see why he would have screwed with the stock wiring in the radio unless he tried drawing his power from those wires, which is possible but would be pretty stupid. I can only suggest first checking you fuses. Then if they look good, take the side dash off and see if you can get a look at the wiring and see if anything looks like it was cut and then spliced

Im gonna say a fuse... its likely to me, that the previous owner changed out the H/U and put the stock one backin to sell it... if the ground were bad, it would "ground out" every time you started the car (or put it into acc.) therefore requiring the code as if it had been a dead battery or the H/U had been removed. Check the ground on the wiring harness in the back.
But TE is right, check the fuse first.

if the radio is lighting up but is just OFF than sounds like stereo electrical problem. if it's just completely dead i'd say fuse or like you said somebody screwed up when trying to splice into the stereo power source for the timer. you say you'd like to get this one runnin first? i think it'd be much easier to just get an aftermarket one.

Thanks for all the input, I was hoping it was just a fuse and a simple swap and its done. Ill probably check it and if it looks bad replace it. If that doesnt work ill just skip messing with the wires and buy a new stereo...I wanted new front door speakers anyway. And to make things more simple ill let the store installers put the stereo in to make sure they have it wired to their specifications.

I forgot to ask...the fuse is in the engine by right? Not the one under the steering column? I only saw one radio fuse and it has some kind of yellow cap over it. If thats it, how do I take off the cap to pull out the fuse? Thanks again.
