Timing belt

RE: Timing belt
if the valve guides/seals are bad enough tha letting it sit at idle than hitting the gas it will smoke as well. best to do a compression test just to make sure you have not blown a ring. you may want to look into your local macinest shop on prices to overhaule the motor or just the head.

RE: Timing belt
The above procedure as far as the timing belt is for the 420A Chrysler engine (non-turbo DOHC 2.0L)- the GST engine is a completely different procedure as it involves a second balance shaft belt that also needs to be properly timed. If you plan on tackling such a job- you can go ahead the remove the valve cover and camshafts- then replace the valvestem seals while your at it. Of course it will involve specialized tools, but this IS the most likely source of oil consumption in a high mileage Turbo engine under normal use. Good Luck!

RE: Timing belt
I found these timing belts on machv. Has anyone heard of these? They are expensive so I just want someone to help justify paying $149 for a belt. http://www.machv.com/ketibe.html

RE: Timing belt
DEAR GAWD.... That's EXPENSIVE for a belt... I'd definately do more research on them. I've never heard of it so wait on it until you hear some type of personal testimony or can find a few articles on these. Also your trans fluid is dark red?? Get it flushed. The dark red is bits of belt and tarnish in the fluid merely waiting to gum up things. Go somewhere and have a Wynn's Transmissioon service done at the place I used to work it ran about $130 out the door. and we usually had a $20 off sale on it. It'll flush ALL the old oil out of the trans and replace EVERY bit of it as well as backflush the filter knocking all the crap previously trapped in it out and cleaning it out as well. It also runs a tarnish remover through and then inserts a belt/oil conditioner. That's my recommendation for the trans.

RE: Timing belt
It was dark red right out of the bottle. I changed it 2 months ago for the first time. I am really suprised that i didnt find alot of metal in it too because I dont use a clutch.... or take my foot of the gas.
