timing belt!!!! help
ok guys i really need some help, i borrowed my moms pt cruiser yesterday and i was on the interstate when all of a sudden the pt dies so i pulled over to the side of the road and realized my timing belt was gone is there any chance of this bending any valves ???? its a 2001 pt cruiser 2.4 motor automatic any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

well with the mileage, id get a new water pump. and other things that you need to do with a timing belt change. well i think most new cars have a no tolerance motor so if you do jump or snap a timing belt. you will need to get the head rebuilt. depends on how much its gonna cost depending how much is bent.

but the only thing that i am worried about is that he bent a good amount of pistons b/c isnt the pt motor a detuned srt4 motor? i dont really know but thats what ive heard. if you didnt bend any then all youll need is retime the motor and replace the belt and adjust it. one thing you can do is do a compression check and see if they have compression.

Well if it is that motor... then you will need to replace a few valves... and if you are REALLY unlucky then you will need a whole new engine because the valves would have taken chunks out of hte pistons.

well the motor still is an interference motor no matter how you look at it most likely you bent some valves if it broke while you were driving. If it didnt then you are very lucky. But my guess is you did.
