Default tranny fluid

i noticed i was low on tranny oil. i went to both pep boys and auto zone, to find that diamond atf SPII is no longer being made. they also had no knowledge of what to put in the car. it is for a 97 gs-t, automatic. Is it alright if it put dexron III in there? is it basicly the same thing or will it mess it up? thanks guys

Check with a mitsubishi service center. I learned a long time ago that transmissions are very finicky to the lubricant they use. It's always better to use the same stuff it came with. Especially if it's been using it for quite some time and now you try to change. Every lube will have different ratios of chemicals so little changes either work well or wreak havoc.
The only time I change is if I had the tranny rebuilt and was starting fresh.
