What was the bad Eclipsle motor?
So after doing some research and taking with some friends that are big car nuts I've come to the conclusion that an RSX would be a waist of money. Being as how I am shoting for 500hp to the wheels, I would end up changing the stock turbo and intercooler for better after market parts. And the resale on the stack turbo is crap. So I have been thinking about going with an RS. They are cheap, and easy to find. I lose the AWD factor that was kind of a turn on but at a 2-4k difference in price I am willing to live with that. The only issue is that I have heard horror stories about one of the Eclipse motors, something about a washer that holds the cam back being faulty. My question is this - Does anyone know if the bad motor was the Chrysler 420A, the SOHC Mitsubishi 4G64, or the DOHC Mitsubishi 4G64, or more that one of the above? Any help or insite would be great.

If you want 500HP your making the biggest mistake of your life looking into a 420a GS or RS. BTW the AWD is a GSX no RSX lol. and they are not a waiste of money they are easy to make 500HP on and alot cheaper to do so than the GS/RS

if you want 500 out of an eclipse its gonna have to be a 4g63 otherwise your probably not going to reach your goal, not that you cant, but probably wont. also at 500 ull want the awd or youll have serious traction problems

yea ihs the 420a, AAALLL the way, bad gaskets, posibility of crank walk cuz its the 2nd g. and these guys really are right. there isnt anything reasonable you can do to get 500hp outa that. for a fun time go with a 90's gsx, there cheap now and just as fun
