Default What sensor / switch is this?

I was under my 96 Eclipse last night and was trying to replace the Crank sensor ( a whole other story) and I saw a sensor or switch sticking out of the side of the block (back side, under the intake, facing the firewall and more toward the driver's side). Near it was a singular yellow wire which was missing the end, looks like it was cut or broken off. Anyone have any idea what this is for ? I am going to try and upload a pic, but if not....Ok, they attached. the first pic is an upclose, the second, the sensor is the furthest one away, on the left.
