While driving after approx 5 miles the car just stalled out. Engine struggled to restart but finally fired over with some spudering and a little smoke which had a slight chemical smell. Whatever made it stall threw the "Service Engine Soon" light. I plugged an Actron Code scanner into the outlet to get a reading and it doesn't detect any signal from the car. I suspect a poor fuel mixture of water vapor on my last fill up may have caused the stalling. However, the scanner not detecting any signals is puzzling. No problems with scanner reading in my Silverado. Any ideas comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cleared all codes - car still feels like it skips and tack needle fluctuates slightly between 1500 & 2500 RPM Any thoughts of possible cause and solutions?
