My '03 GT V6 has had an oil leak since I bought it. My local mechanic put it on the hoist and we looked at it.

It is a very serious leak coming from the timing cover area, with that pulley and belt spewing oil all over, about a quart between oil changes.

We need advice on how to proceed . . . what all needs to be replaced . . . timing belt kit, timing cover, gaskets/seals, plus whatever else . . . and where is the best place to get parts.

The mechanic says he can't find the labor hours on it, so any idea on that?

Other than the oil leak, it's a wonderful car and I'd like to keep it as my daily local driver.

(PS: The nearest Mitsubishi dealer wants $200 to look at it, then will price it out only after they have disassembled it. Of course, at that point I'd pretty much be screwed.)

Would you just leave it alone, since it's been leaking for a long time and less than a quart between oil changes?

Or would you spend $1000, and hope to resolve it?
