Default oil burning?

I have a 2001 full-size Montero with 82,000 miles on it. I religously change or have the oil changed by someone else every 3500 miles, but recently when the engine has warmed up & I come to a stop at an intersection or whatever, I smell burning oil. The oil level on the dipstick is not going down & I can't see any leaks (though, that does'nt mean there isn't one there), so what gives?! The last time the oil was changed was at a garage I hadn't used before...Could they have not screwed the oil filter on properly, thus allowing oil to leak out onto the hot exhaust?
If anyone can give me any advice I would appreciate it...I get so paranoid about my cars...
Thanks.

Default RE: oil burning?

[8D] I gotta a same one with 77,000 miles on it. 1st, oil leak at oil pump seal and had it fixed. Then, oil leak at the switch for 4 wheel drive/differential housing and had it fixed recently. Now, just found out oil leak at timing belt cram shaft and need $857 to change the timing belt and fix the leak. Thinking about get rid of this it and trade for a new one, but no Mitsubishi for sure, I gotta enough already.

Apreciated this is an on topic post... but why did you feel the need to say all that and bring back a 2 year old thread?
