I have an 02 eclipse GT. When you shift into 1st and 3rd, it pops back to neutral. If you hold it in gear andlet out the clutch, it will stay in gear. Gear lube was changed in trans and no sign of metal. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check the shift linkage.

 

my friend just had this problem it was his shift linkage and cable he did it him self it took a couple hours and the cable cost bout a hundred...easy fix
