Default '03 Eclipse GT Engine Problem

I've only had my '03 Eclipse GT V6 four months, and love it. I've driven maybe 4000 miles. It has not had any problems until yesterday.

I had driven about five miles, and shut it off to run an errand. When I tried to restart it, there was a sound that to me was like electrical sparking, a quick zzzzzz, and then everything was dead . . . the engine would not crank.

I did the logical thing and jiggled the battery cables, which were not loose at all, and the engine restarted.

Only, now it is not running the same.

It has always had a really high idle, probably 1000 rpm, faster than that on a cold start, and I could drive a slow speed without touching the accelerator. Now the idle is really slow, 500 and under, acting as if it wants to die. It does not have the zip it did before; feels like it's lugging, working harder.

But I've only driven about 50 miles, all yesterday.

I've looked under the hood, but there's a lot of stuff there, so I don't have any idea where to start.

Thanks for any help.

ecu will need time to reset itself. Also, get a code scanner on it, sounds like something popped.

Yup.

I definitely have lost my idle. I had the AC on today and the engine barely kept running at red lights.

Could it be a fuse?

I assume Autozone or O-Rileys, or one of those parts stores can scan it, huh?

its not a fuse.
Being that i dont know where you are, or any of those stores, i dont know. Any modern garage/mechanic should.

It did it again . . . same place, at the post office when I turned the key to leave.

Poof, it was dead.

Popped the hood, jiggled the battery cables, which were secure, and it started.

Lost my fast idle again.
