Default 2015 outlander sport 2.0 AWD axle seal leak on trans

Typo. This is a 2.0 4WD/AWD. Not a 2.4

Hi, need your advice please. Changed the front right axle boots this past weekend. Put the really long axle assembly back in and now have a leak at the seal right there where the axle goes in, I assume to the trans or transfer case. Also, when took the long axle assembly out, it came out from the trans/transfer case and about a half qt of yellowish oil leaked out
the axle seal on the trans/tf case doesn't look damaged.

Also, is there supposed to be a rubber ring on the axle shaft that goes in to the trans/tf case?

Lastly, couldn't figure out where to put more fluid in. I bought 80 weight tf case fluid.

Really appreciate your help
Thanks

how hard do you have to push the axle in to be sure its seated against the axle seal?

Quite hard. It should then click in and be very close to the seal

so i definitely jammed it in there as best as possible. feels like its all the way in. it does not come out very easily either. i turned it to make sure the teeth were lined up. drives fine.

but never the less, it still leaks...........so i assume the axle seal is bad. is this just the one outer rubber seal? is there any more seals inside that i would need? any o rings?

thanks.
