4g64 starting problems
Hi Folks Just spent $4500 getting my sohc 4g64 rebuilt only to find out it will only start after 10 or so attempts at turning the key. I just get a clicking sound but if I am persistent then it will turn over and fire up. I argued with mechanics that the fault wasn't there before rebuild. I have now changed the starter motor and the same fault is present. Any ideas would be great. By the way I have to find a new mechanic too. The vehicle is a mitsubishi express van 1990 4wd.

If the peoplw that did you engine work installed it, I would say they need to figure it out. Sounds like and electrical problem. First thing I would do is, go right to the starter and apply battery power to the small terminal on the solenoid. If it cranks every time you apply the voltage it could be anywhere between the ign switch, trans inhibitor switch to the starter. If it still doesnt crank, Its a bad battery or connection, engine ground. somewhere in either batter cables.
