Changing the ATF?
Does anyone have a how-to on changing and correctly flushing the Automatic transmission fluid?
I've been quoted £140 for this work, so would like tomake a saving by doing it myself - ESPECIALLY as it needs to be done quite regularly with the correct Fluid (Amsoil !)
Thanks

it IS the correct ATF.
I drive a Galant 2.5 V6 with an autobox made of cheese. Diamond III doesn't last very long, dextron is incorrect, and Amsoil will last 24k before a change is required, but it ain't cheap!

there is nothing magical about Amsoil, other than it will make your trans probably shift oddly.
The only fluid that works always is mitsu ATF+3. cant tell you how many HUNDREDS of transmissions Ive repaired by mearly flushing in the correct fluid.
amsoil needs changing at the exact same intervals as any other fluid, regardless of what people may believe.
the standard interval for a mitsu's trans' servicing is every 30k miles.

I have to agree with MB. Auto trannys are very "picky" when it comes to their blood if you will. The tolerances of auto trannys many times dictate the fluids used, some prefer water (not really, but you get the point). Mitsu/Daimler interchange parts all day long and chances are, you have an DCX A604 with your Mitsu 6g73.
I don't know how easy or hard it may be to get ATF+3 on the eastern side of the "pond", but if that's your best choice, then IMO, that's not a bad one. Although, MB is right, Amsoil isn't magical, they just got the forumula down better than others, but ATF+3 or +4 (depending on the year) is highly recommended by dealership shops and most folks that just know better...not that you don't know
The other thing is, flushing out a tranny isn't done as a DIY (for the most part) because you need a machine that can cycle the fluids in and out. It may look easy and it is, but the machine does all the work. It doesn't just stop there either, you have your flush service and you also have your filter change and you have to remove and replace the pan of fluids (done at the same time)...also the gasket/silicone gasket, on top of......other stuff that MB can fill in.
Sure you can drain the fluid of less than 100%, but then you're only contaminating the new fluid with the old.
Honestly, if you want to save some £...pay for the preventitive maintenance (or scheduled..I call it preventitive
). It may not save you now, but it will later.
