Check engine soon warning light on Outlander I have the code
Hi All,
I am fairly new to the forum and I have seen that the forumcan be extremely useful.
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander, recently I was told thatthe radiator was leaking and had to be replaced, the radiator was replaced subsequentlyand I now have a warning light on the dash which says “check engine soon”. Iconnected my scanner on the car to read the code and I got the following code.
I have changed the temperature sensor and tried to clear thecode and still it would not go away.
The error code that I have says.
P0118
Engine coolant temperature sensor 1 circuit high.
Another thing that I also noticed with the car is that inthe mornings when the car is about to be started, if one starts the car andattempts to drive off, the engine goes off. It has to be left to warm up for aminute or two. This is within a tropical climate and not on a winter morning. Is there any reason for this behaviour? Once the car warms up in the morningand one drives away, that’s it and it doesn’t exhibit such behaviour again.
Thanks in advance.

Is there more than 1 coolant temp sensor in your car? Did someone maybe leave it unplugged doing the rad job?
Does your scan tool provide live data? Can you get the actual reading from the temp sensor and see if it ever changes?
You may need to get a wiring diagram and check the sensor... Usually it will have a 5v reference, a signal wire and a ground connection... If your 5v or ground is bad your computer won't be getting proper readings....
If you can physically trace the wires back to their harness or connection you can look for broken wires.
