Default engine noise

I'm looking at a 2005 Galant...it would be my first Mitsubishi. Is it normal for the engine to sound like it has a tap to it? I've heard it's fine on some cars, but is this true for the Galant?

Thanks

Probably dirty lifters, make sure they have proof of service records.

im thinking dirty lifters as well. When was the last time you did an oil change. Normally if you do a change it will become alot less loud if it is the lifters

It's not loud, I only really noticed it when the hood was up. If it is dirty lifters...how much of an issue is that?

Thanks

Could it cause the engine to smell a little burnt? I noticed it a bit when looking at the car...it also need the recall on the EXHAUST MANIFOLD CATALYTIC CONVERTER to be fixed, not sure if that could cause the smell as well.
