So I drove an 03 spyder the other day to get my rocks off. Unfortunately when moving the shifter from left to right and right to left it is like an arm wrestling contest. 1st to second and 3rd to fourth is nice and easy. The shifter really doesn't want to return to the central position when in neutral. Any suggestions here.

 

I know at least with the 2nd gen eclipses there was a design flaw in that they use shift cables as the linkage between the shifter and transmission. I know this because I had to replace them myself once because they bound up causing those same results and not only are they hard to come by (dealer didnt even have them they had to be ordered direct from the factory) but putting them in is the most gruesome job ive ever done on my car so that might be what your experiencing but sounds to me like it is probably just one cable in your case.

just sounds like a problem with the stick. Take off the center area of the dash and see if the problem is with the throw

 

Any other suggestions before I play MacGyver?

 

i really dont see anything else to look at. Just follow the setup starting from the shifter to the transmission and find the issue
