Angry Hands Free System is Locked

I searched and found a few threads on this but no concrete answers.

For some reason my Hands Free system in my 07 Outlander is locked and no password I've tried (0000,1111,1234,etc) will unlock it. This has nothing to with pairing, it's the code to use the system. Apparently I'm not the only one this has happened to. Does any one know if disconnecting the battery or fuse or something would reset the system? Any magic words or button presses? I can only imagine the nightmare in having to take the car to a dealership because of this stupid issue.

Here are the threads I've found but only working solution was to take it to the dealer for a $900 replacement?!?!

Sorry to bump but I still have this aggravating issue. I'm sure there must be a simple way to reset this hands free system! Anyone know?

Default Hands Free System is Locked

I have the same issue. I have tried a multitude of number combinations to no avail. I did ask the dealership to check it out, and they would have been happy to--for an exorbitant fee. I declined, and have learned to live without it.

Would love some advice on how to do it myself, if anyone knows how to re-set the password.

To unlock the system press the Settings button and Map button at the same time.
After 4 seconds this will take you to a service menu.
Press "hands free module" button on the screen
Press "unlock" button on the screen
confirm.

This will unlock the system and when you go back to the settings menu it will allow you to access the Pairing control.
