Default Throttle Position Sensor 99'Sport 3.0 LS

On 06/27/05 I replaced my THROTTLE POSTIION SENSOR ...the part came from the dealer. It was installed and I was told to drive it 10 cycles to clear out the old code that was reading ' SERVICE ENGINE SOON "..... Well, I drove 26.2 mile and the "SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT " is back on !!!!! What can be wrong now??? I need to educate myself it's back @ the auto shop... the diagnostic test code was P0510 or compulter failure... Is there a wrong way to put in a TPS to get the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light again .. or what else can be wrong... Did he replaced the wrong thing... I need advice .. Thanks so much

Who did the installation? If the dealer did the diagnosis and installation take it back. There is a certain way the TPS needs to be installed to zero it in relation to the actual throttle position. You will need an OHM meter. At least that's how my 92 Montero and my 85 Toyota TPS are adjusted after installation, I don't imagine your TPS is any different. It's the type of thing a mechanic should know how to do.
