Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, and wanted to get some opinions. My sons 1997 eclispe (2.0) has developed what seems to be a lifter issue. He said it started with an occasional loud tapping and an oil pressure light. it remained intermittant with no visible oil leaks and oil level remaining at full. the vehicle now has a consistant loud tapping, consistant with cam speed and not bottom end. No engine smoking, etc. Do these engines have a history of losing lifters before 100k miles? Before I start removing cams, can the lifters be replaced with the cams in? It doesnt look like it but thought I would ask.
Thanks for any input or advice

The oil pressure light is something to worry about. There is a chance that the oil pick up screen is slugged up. Some times engines with this problem will have good oil pressure at start up and after the screen catches enough carbon or sluge the pressure will drop and starve the engine of oil. after you shut it off the particals dislodge from the screen and float around in the oil waiting to be sucked up again. So if the ticking gets worse the longer the engine runs and the light starts flickering or come on, this may be your problem.
